IMAGINARY LANDSCAPE is a multi-media work online, a site, a viewpoint of an interactive virtual landscape. This site used the dynamic Google Maps map to generate a representation of the world using the flux of French source information circulating on the Net. The landscape is made up of satellite views of the earth onto which the headlines of articles hailing from the French media are superimposed. The text's insertion on the map is determined by facts extracted from the article which enable the information to be localized. The headlines form clouds of words floating over the geographical locations mentioned in the articles. These clouds amass and move, following the news.
This work is a tribute to John Cage for Imaginary Landscape n°4 and his investigation of indeterminacy... "the idea of relation being absent, anything may happen. A "mistake" is beside the point, for once anything happens it authentically is."
